Tons of new denim styles from all of our Pavilion favorite brands have just alighted the shop–making it a perfect time to cover new jean silhouettes for spring! We’ve rounded up our newest pairs to give you the silhouette rundown on all things spring denim and help you select your favorite pair.
Balloon Jean
You may have seen the trending horseshoe silhouette in the sartorial realm recently, but have you seen the balloon jean? If horseshoe shapes are too unconventional for your taste, a balloon is a subtler take. Where horseshoe shapes have curved seams on both the inner and outer pants, the balloon silhouette is only subtly curved on the outer seam–creating a soft round shape and easygoing comfort–especially for curvier bodies! Our iteration is the Dunkirk by Pavilion denim favorite Moussy Vintage, made in Japan from 100% cotton. The Dunkirk is a true departure from typical Moussy styles because of its 12 inch high rise, raw uneven hem, and double outer seaming to create the unique shape. Style it with a sharply tailored crop jacket to highlight the waistline and add high tops to draw attention to their unusual hemline.
Barrel Jean
Similar to the balloon shape, the barrel jean is traditionally known as a high waisted slouchy straight–except unlike the balloon, it tapers in before it hits the ankles. Barrel shapes offer lots of room and comfort through the hips and legs as well, and are surprisingly flattering! This silhouette is a playful homage to vintage denim styles. Our barrel jean is the Loving by AMO–featuring sweet snaps at the ankles that can be adjusted in three different places (or worn undone!) to change the width of the leg. Loving is high waisted and giving in the hips, and looks incredible paired with sleek separates and low tops to highlight the details on the ankles.
Trouser Jean
We are seeing a major increase of trouser jeans trending for the year, and we’ve got many versions at Pavilion! As evident by the name, a trouser jean is a marriage of trouser details and denim. The Flora jean by Nili Lotan is a shining example of this beautiful merge–with pleated details at the waist and trouser style pockets both front and back on its softly straight body, this denim is easy to wear for work as much as play. Flora has a long inseam which works great with tall shoes (or tall people!), and an easy softness for comfort. They can be worn either high on the hips or low slung, so Flora works well for both high and mid lovers alike. We love pairing ours with a cuffed tee loosely tucked into the front to dress down Flora’s elevated details.
Wide Flare
If you’re looking for a more polished, structured take on the trouser denim, consider a wide flare. The Elba by Moussy Vintage is our newest black wash favorite, which also features trouser pockets at the front, a structured center press fold, high rise and slightly cropped flare. The wide undone hem makes this already special pair of jeans even more unique! The Elba looks great with a fitted bodysuit and a sharply tailored blazer for a look that can take you from work to dinner.
Easy Straight
Lastly, we introduce an already established silhouette–the straight. It may not seem like a groundbreaking denim move, but the straight silhouette isn’t going anywhere anytime soon because it is incredibly versatile and universal for a wide variety of body shapes. Straights are traditionally known for having the same width all the way down the inseam, with no taper or change of shape. This denim staple gets a freshening up for spring with the Layla by AMO. This classic AMO jean is updated with a subtle but noticeable pink tint, fraying and light distressing. The Layla features a high rise that can be worn lower and looser on the hips as well, and organic cotton denim made in Los Angeles. Play up the subtlety of the pink by pairing the Layla with warm neutral separates.
