How to: Wear White After Labor Day

We've all heard the rule: "No white after Labor Day” it seems like at some point in time, the "fashion police" decided that white was reserved only for the year’s warmer months, making it taboo beyond fall. As stylists at Pavilion, we can't help but feel like this practice is both outdated and impractical. White is the divine ruler of the neutrals - a total palette cleanse, easy on the eyes, and most of all: classic. If you live in a climate like the San Francisco Bay Area where September temperatures are hardly cooler (things are really just heating up if anything) why would you sacrifice your fresh whites anyways? We love rule-breakers and risk-takers, so we say wear it whenever and wherever your heart desires. As strong proponents of tonal dressing, particularly when it comes to a well-curated head-to-toe white look, this week's Editorial, is focused on going against the status quo and giving our Pavilion family three dreamy all-white ensembles with timeless pieces to be worn well after Labor Day.

A late summer heat wave tends to send us San Franciscans into a frenzy as we frantically reach for those warm weather staples we almost packed away. When thermostat skyrockets, there is no better color to combat the sun's glaring rays than white. We love everything about the Fiore Short Dress in White Cotton Gauze by LA based designer Natalie Martin. Each of her carefully crafted pieces are sourced and handmade in Bali out of unique fabrics selected with the intention of creating effortlessly feminine and comfortable silhouettes. This ethereal number encompasses her brand’s aesthetic with her usage of soft, lightweight cotton gauze sewn up to create the perfect relaxed dress to throw on for any occasion. As house dresses feel increasingly like the item du-jour, this a-line piece doubles for indoor and outdoor duty with voluminous long sleeves with a flattering deep-v neckline adorned with a delicate row of covered buttons. Beautiful paneled seamwork gives this dress volume throughout the skirt for a flowy feminine feel. The gauzy fabrication is slightly sheer, so we recommend wearing nude undergarments or using this as a bathing suit cover. Pair this late summer look and make it romantic with the Ellada Sandal in Gold by our favorite St. Tropez based designer, K. Jacques. These handmade sandals add the perfect level of neutral shine with delicate grecian-inspired metallic gold strapping to be wrapped around the ankle for style. Finish things off with an oversized wire frame - we went with the Omotesando in Rose Gold by Illesteva. These retro sunnies feature UV protected square-shaped grey lenses with rounded corners finished off with rose-gold stainless steel wire framing for a touch of feminine shine.

Wearing the exact same shade of a color on top and bottom can be overwhelming, especially in optic white. We’re huge advocates of head to toe monochromatic dressing but feel free to keep things tonal and mix and match different tints and hues for variety. DL1961 has always been ahead of the game leading the pack with their eco-friendly and ultra comfortable denim silhouettes. Their Hepburn High Rise Wide Leg Jean has become one of their most sought after styles, and this time they've given it to us in a refreshing off-white Eggshell. This wide-leg style pant features an ultra-high rise of 11 inches with a gently frayed hem for an effortlessly cool finish. The small addition of lycra and tencel to the cotton denim fabrication make these jeans feel incredibly lightweight and comfortable while flattering any body shape in all the right places. We wanted to pair our cream-colored straight legs with a brighter shade of white for our tonal scheme and opted for the Babe Tee in White by Amo. This super soft short sleeve tee is the perfect silhouette for t-shirt lovers everywhere. Featuring a slightly fitted, semi-cropped hem, this relaxed top pairs effortlessly with all of your denim bottoms and skirts. Add some urban street-wear flare to cut through the tonality and finish things off with an over-the-top sneaker. We love the playful injection of color and print that we get with the Running Sole in Leopard Pony with Silver Star by Golden Goose. These chunky-soled sneakers feature an eye-catching combination of leopard printed calf hair and silver glitter with tasteful hits of neons. Match back your leopard print sneakers with a pair of tortoise sunnies. We wanted to keep things classic with Illesteva’s Sterling in Tortoise with Brown Flat Lenses. The slightly rounded shape is elevated with a thin acetate frame with tonal dark brown lenses for a clean finish.

Our next all-white ensemble is for comfort-seekers everywhere who don't want to look like they just rolled out of bed. While some of our jeans may not fit like they did pre-pandemic, it doesn’t mean that sweats are always the answer. We are obsessed with everything about the new Agnes Pant in White by Rails. From the subtle crinkle texture of the fabric, to the extra large hip pockets, these beachy pants are a must have. These 100% cotton pull-on wide legs feature an easy elasticated waistband with an adjustable drawstring for maximum comfort. We love the high waist that can be worn at any height and easy, loose fitting ankle crop silhouette. Keep things clean and trend-forward with a tight-fitting bodysuit such as AGOLDE’s Rianne High Neck Racerback Bodysuit in White. This simple closet staple features a flattering high neck with a narrow cut straps to show off the perfect amount of skin. This feminine one piece is made using the brand’s ultra-soft signature cotton modal rib fabrication that you’ll want in every color. We are quickly falling in love with all of our newest Loulou Studio sweaters, and wanted to throw in some country-club vibes with their Cavallo Sweater in Stone.  Add some soft mauve tones and drape this wool blend pullover sweater over your shoulders for style. You’ll thank us later when it gets chilly and you have an extra layer to throw on! Ground everything out with an easy black slide.  We love the subtle shine we get with K. Jacques’ Epicure Sandal in Nude. These french sandals feature a smooth leather vamp with a simple low stacked heel for comfort. Last but not least, grab a pair of colorful geometric fashion sunnies such as the Lisbon in Berry Tortoise by Illesteva and you're ready to head out the door.
