How To: Wear Light Wash Denim in Cold Weather

In the world of fashion trends, a common assumption is light wash denim can only be worn during the warmer seasons of the year. When the temperatures drop, we default to darker washes and layers while tucking those light blue jeans in the back of the closet along with those beloved cut off shorts. However, we are firm believers that all denim was created equal and can be worn year-round. There’s no time like the present to break from the status quo and opt for an icy light wash to continue your autumnal ensemble. On this week's editorial, we are going to show you how we are increasing the wear life of our favorite light wash styles from the shop.

Layering is the one thing we all look forward to when that first leaf falls, and the air turns crisp. Why not ground your layers with a light wash jean? Our first favorite is the Jamie in Shakedown by Agolde. These 100% cotton jeans were designed and made in the USA. This classic pale indigo wash featuring stylistic slice holes at the knees and a lived-in slouchy fit for an effortless aesthetic. The Jamie is great for boy-ish figures that want a relaxed but not quite baggy fit. Don’t be afraid to keep the distressed look by cutting the hem off and making these your perfect length. Throw on a fall approved grunge graphic tee such as the Wild At Heart Tee in Washed Black by Anine Bing. Pairing your light wash jeans with a dark contrasting graphic adds the perfect amount of brightness without appearing too "summer forward." Show off your layering game by grabbing your favorite warm handed coat such as the Prince of Wales Overcoat in Black and White by Harris Wharf - this will instantly elevate your look. Accessorize this polished grunge aesthetic with an edgy bootie such as the all-new Shanta Bootie in Black Croc by Dolce Vita and some blingy gold jewelry and matching wire frame sunnies like the Mykonos II in Rose Gold with Grey Flat Lenses from Illesteva.

Our next light wash look will tick every box for a comfortable everyday outfit. The Bowie Tapered in Blue by Moussy is a new arrival that we are quickly falling in love with. These handmade Japanese jeans bring artful whiskering and prominent shredded holes throughout the leg on a relaxed-fit tapered. We recommend sizing up if you're a stretch jean girl as these are very rigid and will take time to break in (they will grow and break in significantly). Winterize these pants with your favorite pullover sweatshirt like the Balloon Sleeve Sweatshirt in Beltway by Agolde. Ultra-comfortable and cozy, this "long" crop length sweatshirt sits perfectly at your natural waist. It features full rounded sleeves for endless outfit possibilities. Finish it all off with a chromatic stand out sneaker such as the Mid Star in Rock Snake with Fuchsia Star by Golden Goose. We love what the addition of pop color does for this look. The snake print and soft metallics are the perfect nods to fall's hottest animal print trend. Tie it all together with a simple pair of tonal shades such as the Cordova II in Matte Black and Silver.

Last but certainly not least, we love the versatility of Moussy's Lancaster Skinny in Blue. These ultra tapered jeans feature light distress with specialized tears and stitch work at the knees. The different levels of blue make this the perfect everyday jean for any occasion. Keep this look relaxed and uniform by pairing it with a classic white tee. We went with the Mia Slinky Rib Crew Tee in White by Alternative Apparel as our base layer on top. We love the layering opportunity this form-fitting rib tee brings to an outfit. Take it over the top with Harris Wharf's Boiled Wool D.B Military Coat in Ash Moulin. This light grey double-breasted peacoat screams fall with its premium heavyweight wool felt fabrication and classic military details. This third layer is the perfect neutral vehicle for any pair of light wash jeans paired with a fun white sneaker. We love what the combination of color and glitter found in the Superstar in White Leather Sparkle with Yellow Star by Golden Goose does for this look. Finish it all off with a minimalist pair of fashion sunglasses, we love the simplicity the Allen M in Gunmetal with Olive Flat Lenses brings to this outfit.
