How To: Wear a Cropped Tee to Work

Crop tops can be a tough trend for the workplace so we’re showing you a few ways to style your favorite shirts to be office appropriate (assuming your work is a fairly casual environment). This may be stating the obvious but it is absolutely imperative no actual bare skin or midriff show - ever. That means sticking to slightly longer silhouettes that cover the top button of your pants or can be safely secured and tucked. This week we’re styling our three favorite cropped shapes for the season and showing you how to keep things conservative enough for your day job, but cute enough to seamlessly transition into any off the clock engagements.

The Babe Tee - Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of this cotton tee. Brought to you by cool girl denim brand AMO, they make everything in Los Angeles and this is the softest fabric and the perfect length for an easy front tuck (as shown here) with a super high rise jean, or left tucked out for a relaxed vibe. We’re wearing this crew neck tee tucked into our ‘fashion high’ Rileys from AGOLDE with an Anine Bing Belt.

The Headliner - This $36 shirt from Alternative Apparel is your next solid workhorse staple to wear anytime, anywhere. Available in white (shown here), black and smoke, this is a great update to a classic tee that feels just a bit more fashion. It’s a cotton blend that feels soft and drapey but still industrial. This slightly cropped hem creates a nearly flirty swing effect when left untucked as we’re wearing it with this Anine Bing skirt. If you’re wanting to keep things contained it’s still perfect for a front tuck into a high rise pant. Want to wear these with more of a mid rise? Take a size or two up, it’ll be oversized but also longer so your options for length will be more variable.

The Twist Tee - Also from AMO, this L.A. made tee is perfectly constructed to be worn untucked. True to its namesake, the Twist Tee has angled side seams that taper inward and split above the pockets creating more movement to a potentially boxy cropped tee. This heather grey tee is a cotton blend that hangs beautifully on the body for casual but considered look. We’re pairing these with another super high rise pair of mom jeans to save us from the dreaded desk muffin top.
