How to Wear a Cami

The perennial silk camisole comes in all sorts of different iterations, shapes, styles, and fabrications which can instantly change the look and feeling of an ensemble. While the classic camisole consists of dainty, spaghetti straps in a loose body shape, the simple design makes it a closet essential with endless potential. As variety and potential can come with the challenge of head-to-toe outfitting, many struggle with how to pull together a complete look while keeping things chic and flexible from day to night. To alleviate your struggles, we've put together a few easy outfits to inspire and guide you through cami season.

The Gwyneth Silk Camisole by Anine Bing is the ideal, minimalist, starter cami. Cut in a rich silk charmeuse black fabric, this staple top is a subtle v-neck with two side darts for added shape. With two small side vents at the hem and adjustable spaghetti straps, this camisole is beautifully simple and chic, perfect for being dressed up or down. As this is a slightly boxy, drapey cut, we recommend either a subtle front tuck or a full 360 tuck to give you a little bit more shape. Pair this back with the Rails high, paperbag waisted Jess Pant in Parchment for an effortlessly feminine look. Tie this all together by pairing it with a nude strappy sandal like the Mia from TKEES to achieve the ultimate summer outfit. Trade in the trousers for a pair of high rise denim and your favorite sneaker to take this look in a more casual direction.

Cami NYC doesn't just have the word Cami in its name for no reason. This brand has mastered the silk camisole in every iteration imaginable. The Black Racer Cami is a classic yet elegant twist on the more basic iterations of the silk cami.  Unlike the Gwyneth, this tank is more tailored to you with a modest necklace and a deep racerback. We love the delicate eyelash lace trim shaping the neckline and to lend a feminine but not overtly sexy touch. Balance this dainty piece with a pair of your highest waisted mom jeans and some beat up sneakers - we love the Francy by Golden Goose. Want to dress it up? Trade in the sneaker for a clean black bootie such as the Shanta Bootie by Dolce Vita.

If you already have your standby black cami, maybe you want to branch out with white in the same Racer style by Cami NYC. The optic white feels fresh for summer  as the perfect accent to a seasonal tan, yet equally crisp as a layering piece for winter. As we celebrate the last warm rays of summer, we’re highlighting an easy, relaxed look to keep things feeling light and casual. Unlike the black, the white version comes double lined in the front and bra (or not) friendly. Hold onto summer with a baggy boyish jean like the Slouch Trouser from AMO. Let your Camisole drape with a quick front tuck and finish it off with a fun chunky sneaker like the Hi Star from Golden Goose.
