Trend Report - The Curved Pant

Undoubtedly you’ve heard mention of the curved pant in some capacity or other this past year. Different iterations of the relaxed, rounded shape are trending for denim and pant silhouettes, making them a fun departure from straights and skinnies. At Pavilion we absolutely love the playfulness and comfort of the curved leg silhouette! If you’re uncertain of the trend or shape, we invite you to explore the various differences of the curved pant to find the one you resonate with most–and take our tips on how to style them with existing pieces in your wardrobe!

The Balloon Jean

Balloon jeans are fitted in the waist, relaxed below the hip, slightly tapered at the leg and most iconically–have a bow-like, curved fit through the leg, like the Luna from AGOLDE. Very often this silhouette has a curved, split-at-the-hip seam that comes to center at the front leg, making for a pieced together denim look to create the curved shape. They’re different from wide leg jeans because they tend to taper to some extent at the ankle or foot and the curve shape is concentrated to the outer leg seam. This makes for a surprisingly flattering balloon-like curve that accentuates the waist while leaving a roomy comfort for the legs. Wear a jean like this with your favorite sneakers, a fitted top tucked in, or for a more polished look try an on-trend tailored vest.

Nili Lotan arguably did the “horseshoe” silhouette first with the bestselling Shon Pant. This is a horseshoe shape because instead of a curved outer seam this pant has a darted knee that starts at the inner seam and folds outwards to create a subtle curved shape. The Shon Pant is loose and comfortable but not a significantly baggy leg so the effect of the curve is a bit more subtle–especially paired with its subtly tapered ankle and crop length. It also features large patch pockets and strategically placed seams at the back waist for a thoughtfully constructed pant that offers eternal comfort. This style can be worn both high on the hip for a more fitted waist look or low slung on the hips depending on your preference. Wear yours loosely tucked with your favorite easy tees or baggy sweater and belt going into fall.

Or, try the Shon’s denim cousin, the Emerson Jean, which is another Pavilion bestseller and sure to become your favorite go-to comfortable everyday jean!

If you’re on the fence about the silhouette, you can try easing into it with a more subtle iteration, like the Anne Bowed Jean. While these feature a curved outseam like the balloon silhouette it is far less curved and far more subtle in nature–but still offers the same great comfort of the style! The Anne from AMO has pronounced seams that are less rounded in nature but still provide that same touch of utilitarian style that we love from the silhouette. In this wonderful off white neutral tone, pair it with black separates for transitional styling into the cool weather days.
