Taming Animal (Prints)

As the weather changes with the seasons, so do prints. Away go your summer floral, fresh pastels, and vibrant colors to make room for a fall refresh. Print is something that people often shy away from - especially those who identify as minimalists (us included), but even those who prefer head-to-toe tonal  outfitting need a little sprinkle of color play in their wardrobe. This week, we received lots of new arrivals that capture this season’s coolest prints and patterns. Don’t worry - we are going to walk you through how to outfit these pieces, and more specifically, how to grounding these new prints with the neutrals you already know and love.

The key to introducing print into a predominantly clean paletted wardrobe is to start with simple prints ideally in just 2 colors. As ‘animal’ is proving to be the most significant print trends, it can be a challenging trend to tackle and adopt as your own if you’re a self proclaimed minimalist. If you find yourself struggling to introduce some fauna inspired components, the Leopard Print Ramona Sweatshirt in Washed Black by Anine Bing will undoubtedly fit that box. This soft slouch cotton crewneck features a rock and roll inspired graphic animal print in a subtle, glimmering metallic foil. This crewneck will keep you warm and stylish through the fall without distracting the eye. Keep things understated and tonal with washed black denim for a compatible and chic head-to-toe look like the Nico in Virtue by Agolde. For shoes, we felt it was only appropriate to emphasize the darker color palette, so added in the Slide in Black Leather Studs by Golden Goose. Finish this light metallic look with your favorite pair of warm toned wire-framed sunnies such as the Wynwood II in Gold with Brown Lenses by Illesteva and head out the door.

Our next printed piece is a must-have for all the skirt lovers out there. The Dolly Skirt in Willow Green Zebra from Anine Bing will inject the perfect amount of color and edge into your wardrobe. Made of 100% silk, this slip skirt sits at your natural waist with a comfortable stretch waistband and a sexy slit for flowing ease and movement. The deep yet muted green of the print background combined with the sharp black lines of the abstract zebra-like pattern makes this hip-hugging skirt a standout piece for Fall. Pair this with a warm handed pullover such as the Heavy Fleece Mock Neck in Black by Stateside for a put-together yet comfortable look. Ground it all out with a neutral slide such as the Ekko Flat in Black by Dolce Vita and the Eldridge in Champagne with Olive Flat Lenses by Illesteva for a head to toe outfit that will carry you from day to night.

Our last piece of the print craze may have you thinking that it’s only for the bold, but we are showing you how to integrate even the loudest of prints into your wardrobe. The Cocoon Coat in Jacquard Leopard by Harris Wharf London has all of the best things in life in one coat. Made from a blend of wool with a dash polyester, this piece is easier to outfit than one would assume at first glance. Let the coat be the star of this outfit by keeping the base and all of the other parts as simple as possible, and most importantly, make sure that you are wearing the coat  don’t let it wear you! To keep it all neutral and accessible we are layering this with a chic body-hugging turtleneck: the Basic Turtleneck in Black by Rachel Pally, and an all black pair of shades like the Jefferson 54 in Matte Black with Grey Lenses by Illesteva. Complete the sleek aesthetic you’ve created by tucking your turtleneck into a pair of high rise dark wash skinnies such as the all-new Cameron Skinny HI in Dark Blue by Moussy and tie it all together with a clean sneaker such as the Superstar in White with Black and Gold Lettering by Golden Goose.
