With Earth Day this weekend, we want to pivot our focus to the brands we carry and their efforts towards sustainability making quality garments with minimal environmental impact. At Pavilion, we pride ourselves in carrying many vendors that practice sustainable methods of production and today we are highlighting key traits of said brands that make their separates both high quality and earth friendly.

Garment production starts with fabric sourcing, and Loulou Studio is a hallmark in this regard. Loulou’s founder Chloe made certain her brand pays respect to the environment so she sources all her knits and yarns from her partners in Mongolia through modern techniques that limit environmental impact. Europe’s eco-responsible label OEKO-TEX is a certification that indicates responsibly sourced fabrics and all of Loulou Studio’s knit products have OEKO-TEX certification. Harris Wharf London also provides full fabric-tracing transparency and implements recycled fabrics to create their long-lasting outerwear found at Pavilion.

Another major step in the textile production process is the fabric dye and wash process. This is a great opportunity for brands to implement sustainable practices, such as AGOLDE. The brand not only employs organically grown and regenerative cotton in its denim but also uses eco-friendly techniques like high efficiency dyes, dryers and wash machines, which limits both water and toxic chemical usage. AMO and ATM are also hallmark brands for employing eco-friendly cottons in their jeans and tops, as well as Cotton Citizen whose dye house is built under environmentally strict protocols and employs a large percentage of recycled fabrics. All of our Los Angeles based brands also honor low-waste production methods every step of the way.

Many of our brands are also made close to home, such as AMO, Cotton Citizen and Beyond Yoga. Beyond Yoga is not only made in the USA but also is BlueSign Certified, uses waterless printing for its tags and patented eco-friendly fabrics to create its ultra soft, buttery spacedye fabric we all know and love.

While made in Japan, Moussy Vintage is still a pioneer in moving the world of denim in a sustainable direction. By implementing a tanning process unique to its region of origin and using a flower-derived extract as dye, Moussy’s Tochigi leather is both socially and environmentally friendly, and can be found on every pair of Moussy denim. The brand also creates its denim in a traditional mill that has been updated to align with sustainable denim production.
